Information for Prospective and New Members

Welcome to Wycombe Philharmonic Choir

On joining you will be asked for your name, address, telephone number and email details - please promptly advise the Secretary of any changes. By giving WPC your details you are agreeing that they can be used to contact you about WPC matters. If that causes you problems please advise the Secretary.

The membership list is maintained by the Secretary and used by the Chairman/Committee/Line Reps to contact the membership mainly by email, which keeps costs to a minimum and avoids wasting paper. The Chairman will also keep you informed by means of Notices during rehearsals.

If you don’t have access to email, please tell your Line Rep who will arrange for paper copies of information for you and will telephone you in event of a cancellation.

We have a two part website at www.wycombephil.org.uk The public part gives general information about the choir, how to join and the details of any future concerts; the members only section has the Choir Handbook, voice part practice files to help you learn the music for upcoming concerts, downloadable music scores to print and other information to help you learn the music for the next concert. On becoming a full member you will be given access to this part of the website. Again, if you don’t have a computer/printer or Internet access, please let your Line Rep know.

WPC aims to be a friendly, supportive community of a wide range of people who want to enjoy singing and who relish the challenge of learning new music across a wide varied repertoire.
Members are supportive of those new to singing and reading music as much as those who are experienced. If you feel out of your depth or have concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask your Line Rep or a committee member for help.

We aim to be an inclusive choir. If you have any particular physical challenges the committee will do its best to accommodate them, for example by providing chairs and ensuring access for concerts or a sighted helper. If you need transport to rehearsals or to a concert, we will attempt to find someone living nearby who can help. Please raise any needs with your Line Rep, a committee member or your buddy.

All subscribed choir members will be provided with a WPC music folder to hold music neatly and to give a good appearance at performances. Ask a committee member if you need one, and practice holding it at rehearsals as it can get heavy. Please take care when putting music into the folders and when removing it and use post-it notes or similar to mark pages in anthologies.

If you leave the choir or decide that it isn’t for you after your taster sessions, please ensure that you return any borrowed music and the WPC folder to enable others to enjoy using it in the future.
